Law Makers Do Almost Nothing For Protecting Animals From Business

Unfortunately, the federal government and many state governments look the other way when it comes to cruelty-for-profit businesses. Please consider sending some or all of this letter to your U.S. Congressmen / Congresswomen and U.S. Senators.

Write Your Congressman/Congresswoman
Write Your U.S. Senator
Write Your Governor
Write Your State (choose legislator at right)

Dear Legislator,

I am very concerned about news reports and a number of websites showing farmed ducks with their beaks cut off, toes cut off, and some sort of paste shoved down their throat three times a day to fatten their liver. The force feeding causes lacerations, ruptures, and death. Gasping, vomiting, and struggling to move, the birds endure this hell every day until the end of their lives. The purpose of this torture is to create grossly over sized and diseased fatty duck liver which the ultra selfish enjoy.

Not too long ago, one news report showed pigs in China with their jaws wired shut and force fed septic water. Is shoving paste down the throats of ducks any better? Can’t we do better than China?

What if a cruelty-for-profit business was forcing food down the throats of dogs and selling dog livers to the ultra selfish? Is that also a legal business in the U.S.?

People are arrested day in and day out for animal cruelty (and should be), but when a business is busy making a profit and cruel to animals in the process, for some unknown reason there’s no consequences. Do animals feel less pain, suffer any less because they’re suffering cruelty at the hands of a business instead of an individual?

Is it that there’s one standard for citizens and a much much lower standard for businesses? Is there one jurisdiction for citizens and a different jurisdiction for businesses? What is the secret so we can write a law against it?

We’re supposedly “the richest nation in the world”. If we’re so rich and so civil with our democracy, why hasn’t the federal government written anti animal cruelty laws that help all animals and apply to all businesses? Do ducks feel less pain than dogs? Do ducks suffer less than dogs under the same conditions? No.

Please write effective anti animal cruelty laws that would be effective immediately, not like some state bills that wouldn’t be effective until 2017; we don’t want to grow this sleazy foie gras industry, we want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Thank you for you time. I look forward to your help in this matter.

Horse Racing

Kentucky Derby 2008 – Eight Belles finished the race second and seconds later both of the horse’s ankles broke. Seconds after that she was euthanized, right on the track. The cause? The Kentucky derby is an 1/8 of a mile (660 feet) longer than all other races, so their bodies are not conditioned nor bred for the extra 660 feet.
